"Harriett Sosson doesn't run her B&B the way most people do. She won't
let you take a room if she thinks you won't be happy here (no soup for you!) and why she
won't charge anywhere near what she ought to for a wonderful eight-room Victorian on
gorgeous Jackson Street, less than a minute's walk to Cape May's main beach.
"So here's the deal—if you're a relaxed and thoughtful person you might
just get to enjoy the best accommodation bargain in town. If you're expecting flat-screen
TVs in your room, forget it. Harriett DOES have TVs and basic cable. But if you're
Harriett's kind of customer, you'd much rather enjoy the house's eclectic atmosphere,
good conversation and breezy porches." Jack Wright, Insider's Guide to Cape
May
Here are a few things that may
help you decide if Poor Richard's is
the right place for you.
POOR RICHARD'S, built in 1882 as the
private residence of a Cape May hotel owner, has been run as an inn since 1977. It's one
of that small number of owner-operated inns that offer exceptional overnight
accommodations in National Landmark buildings. Each has its own special mix of style and
service.
At Poor Richard's we try to strike a balance between today's informality and
yesterday's charm, without being pretentious or overbearing. We're friendly and helpful,
but respect your privacy; and while the rooms are furnished with period pieces, our
primary goal is to have guests feel comfortable and "at home"—we're not aiming at
strict Victorian authenticity...and our prices aren't too outrageous.
The majority of our clientele are returning guests or people who have heard
about us from these guests.
We have:
